North Bank Street forms part of the Historic backdrop to the centre of the city and Princes Street, it's facade part of the Old Town fabric that rises up to the Castle Rock, so the solution to the brief required to be sensitive and respectful to the Heritage nature of the site and surroundings.
The Edinburgh Old Town Renewal Trust (EOTRT), Historic Scotland and Ancient Monuments were consulted in the early design stages of the new frontage. The new frontage was designed taking historical reference from archive drawings and a comprehensive survey of the details used on nearby buildings of the same period.
The completed scheme is now used as an example by the EOTRT for similar types of projects.
The Bank of Scotland commissioned Lee Boyd Partnership to upgrade the frontages of 7-9 North Bank St, 200 yards from the Head Office, in 1996.
